MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF SCOTTON PARISH COUNCIL HELD ON THURSDAY 5TH MARCH 2026 AT 6PM IN SCOTTON VILLAGE HALL
1) PRESENT – Cllr R Walker (Chair), Cllr S Walker (Clerk and RFO), Cllr H Alexander, Cllr Y Huddleston, Cllr K Ibbeson, District Cllr K Carless and County Cllr C Reeve
ALSO PRESENT – Mr Housam
2) APOLOGIES – Cllr S Siddall
3) CHAIRS OPENING REMARKS – Cllr R Walker opened the meeting at 6pm
4) PUBLIC SESSION – No comments
5) REPORTS FROM COUNTY/DISTRICT COUNCILLORS – Cllr Reeve stated that the proposed hydrogen pipeline running from Nottinghamshire to the East coast has, now, 4 possible routes. One preferred and three others. The preferred route, if adopted, would run very close to the village of Scotton. A consultation period has commenced and there is a meeting at Blyton village hall on the 17th of March running from 2.30/6.30pm for anyone wishing to attend.
A budget of 4 million pounds has been set aside by LCC for work to be carried out on highways and drainage. At this time, it is unsure whether priority will be given to pothole repairs or main road work.
Cllr Alexander asked about the felling of ash trees to the north of Corringham. Cllr Reeve stated that this was due to “ash dieback”. It is hoped that some trees can be saved.

7) MINUTES OF THE PARISH COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON THE 5TH of FEBRUARY 2026 – The minutes were accepted as a true and accurate record of the proceedings.

8) FINANCE - After a discussion it was decided that Cllr S Walker would enquire about the cost of the “bleed kits” which can be obtained from WLDC. This would be stored with the defibrillator or in an alternative wall mounted container alongside the defibrillator. Decision to be made at the April meeting.
9) WESTGATE UPDATE – No further communication received.
10) VILLAGE HALL UPDATE – Cllr S Walker stated that the required 50% deposit for the new playground equipment had been paid to Playdale and a commencement date of 13th April had been agreed. The balance is due on completion.
11) PENFOLD UPDATE – Conifers still require moving from the planters to the grassed area.
12) ORCHARD UPDATE – Replacement plum trees need planting out as soon as conditions allow
13) VILLAGE EMERGENCY PLAN – Following the meeting arranged by the Parish Council on the 19th of February a decision was made to not take this any further at the moment. This is due to the poor turnout at the meeting and general lack of interest shown by parishioners.
14) GREEN LANE/COFFIN LANE – Following a visit by LCC they have decided not to take any action. The route is passable but remains uneven underfoot with fresh tyre marks visible.
15) LCC GRASS CUTTING CONTRACT – The councillors agreed to the terms of the contract and Cllr S Walker to sign and return the relevant paperwork to LCC
Agreement was reached to employ Mr Williams for a further year for maintenance/grass cutting around the village. Hours were agreed and have been passed to Mr Williams.
