Annual Parish Meeting 5th May

Minutes of the Annual Parish Meeting held 5th May 2022 in the Village Hall, Northorpe Road, Scotton DN21 3RB at 6pm

In attendance: Cllr Ron Walker (Chairman – Scotton Parish Council), Cllr. L. Clews (District Councillor), Cllr. L. Rollings (District Councillor) and Mrs L. Cooper (Clerk & RFO)

Guest speakers: PC Shaw - Rural North Policing Team, Karin Clark - Scotton and District W.I.

There  were 9 members of the public.

1. Cllr. Walker welcomed everyone to the meeting.
2. There were no apologies.
3. The notes of the Annual Parish Meeting held 4th March 2021 were approved and signed as a correct record.
4. The chairman read out the Annual Report.

  • Sincere thanks were extended to all Parish Councillors for giving their time and commitment to the Council.
  • Cllr. A. Ramsay was thanked for mowing rides and paths clear at the allotments.
  • Cllr. J. and A. Robinson were thanked for continuing to monitor and move the Speed Indicator sign around the village and downloading captured data.
  • The Jubilee Tree which was planted at the junction of East Street and Crapple Lane had died and was replaced by Lincolnshire County Council with a Silver Lime.
  • There was general discussion about plans to use part of Council land to create a Community Orchard.

5. Pc Shaw discussed his role within the Rural Policing Team and advised that PCSO Bill Thomas had retired. He spoke about the website www.police.org which could be used to find crime figures for all parishes in Lincolnshire. He spoke briefly about crime in Scotton but stressed that it was very low.
6. Cllr. S. Walker gave a brief report about the activities of the Village Hall over the past year.

  • Thanks were extended to all members of the Village Hall Committee for their work and commitment to keeping activities going.
  • Use of the hall was improving.
  • It was hoped to hold a ‘Party in the Park’ later in the year.
  • There were plans to add new play equipment to the park.
  • There would be no rise in fees for the coming year.
  • They were in desperate need of volunteers and encouraged anyone interested in becoming a part of the committee to contact them.

7. Karin Clark of the Scotton & District W.I. gave the following report:

  • Thanks were extended to Scotton Parish Council for a small grant towards the purchase of noticeboards for the group.
  • Attendance at the W.I. group was mainly back to normal. There had been no losses, all 31 members returned following the end of lockdown.
  • It was a friendly and open group, and anyone interested in joining would be made very welcome.

8. Residents raised concerns about speeding in the village and crime generally. There followed a lively, inclusive, and open discussion led by Pc Shaw. Cllrs. Clews and Rollings brought their expertise to the meeting and offered suggestions as to what could be done. Cllr. Walker took part in the discussion, on behalf of the Parish Council, the issues raised were known to the Council and had been and would continue to be raised during Council meetings.
9. Cllr. Walker thanked all those present for coming to the meeting and speaking.

The meeting closed at 7.05pm.
