The small rural community of Scotton is in the district of West Lindsey, lying near the River Eau, a 15-mile (24km) tributary of the Trent that flows through Lincolnshire. Its nearest neighbour is the larger village of Scotter and the smaller hamlet of Northorpe, with the nearest large town of Gainsborough only 9 miles (15km) away.
The beautiful, mediaeval church of St. Genewys dates back to the C13 and is a grade 1 listed building with an interesting history. It overlooks the village hall, a hub of activity and village life. To the rear of the village hall is a play area for small children, which is fenced off and an adjoining recreation field. In addition, it has an all-weather outdoor gym, tennis courts and a hoop for basketball games. This open space also hosts the annual village fete.
